Cabinet Renovation

Eighteen years ago my cabinets started their life...pickled. Yeah, that was a popular thing back in the early 90's. I begged for white, but that was not to be and it was a good thing Dodger (my husband) said a flat out NO! I must have been delirious at the time, because I had three small children under the age of 8. White cabinets would have made my life a nightmare. Cleaning, wiping, wiping, cleaning. That is all my life would have consisted of day after day. Anyway, after 18 years I decided it was time for change. So, this is where I began. Removing doors, hinges and knobs. Then a good clean with ammonia. That may sound like a simple process, but I had 32 doors and 17 drawers to clean, prime, paint, glaze and seal.



The doors piled up and I began to hallucinate, cry and think about chocolate.



I guess at this point I should confess that there were a couple of things that I could not have done without...



But, I perservered, and made it to this point...





Then I had a little meltdown after a gallon of primer turned over and spilled on my hardwood floors...I sunk to a new low when I dipped Ghiradelli semi-sweet chocolate chips into the peanut butter jar and ate it right off the spoon. While I was still in an altered state, I did a little mock up with my shiny brushed nickel hardware. I felt inpsired, wiped my mouth and moved on to another door.



Now, you must know that there were many a day this old gal worked 12 and 13 hour days on this project. But, I had a deadline and a mighty big incentive to finish. A 50th Birthday party for Dodger loomed ahead in the horizon and believe me, it haunted me in my dreams. Forty plus people in my house and in my kitchen! It was enough to make you have a pajama soaking night sweat. I finished this project in a week and a half with a few days to shop and party plan to spare. And just for you...here is the end result. It was worth every peanut cluster I popped into my mouth. Just for your info...Valspar "Ginger Sugar" satin paint on the cabinets, glazed with Valspar premixed "Burnt Umber" glaze. Center island Valspar for Martha Stewart "Andiron" satin paint. All hardware and hinges purchased at Lowe's.









Well, there you have it. My kitchen cabinet update. It could have been complete had my hubby wanted that stainless steel dishwasher and stainless steel refrigerator for his 50th. I kept waiting for the delivery, but it never came. Maybe come September the delivery truck will come for me.

Sorry...I really have been very busy!

Well, I have finally figured out a few things that are essential to doing this blog thing....first and foremost, my Internet Explorer must be working in order to download a picture. Second, deep breathing while you count to 10 helps the frustration level. Really it does.


So, I have reached a milestone and maybe...just maybe I can get this thing going.


I have so much to share! I have completed my kitchen cabinet project and pictures will be posted of the stages of insanity I went through to complete them. Bags of peanut clusters were consumed and one day I had a complete meltdown that also involved chocolate in several odd ways. No photos of that, but I will share with you what I did to make it through the final stages of the project.


Three days after the project ended....I hosted a party for about 42 to celebrate my hubbie's 50th Birthday. So. There you have it, I have confessed all of my sins (those committed in the last couple of weeks which involved chocolate) right here on my blog. I think. I am sure there were more and I do promise to share them.


In closing, a few words to the two people I know are watching. Rachel, I did it all by myself. I know you were sending powerful vibes my direction! Dana, finally you can see some of my photos...I thought they would be bigger and maybe they are... somewhere out there. Let me know if you find them.
